We asked four ordinary Americans for their thoughts on the situation in the Madeline Museum of Natural History, where Sam Baily is currently holding some 40 school children hostage. Baily recently lost his job as a security guard at the Museum due to state budget cuts. Baily's sole demand? His job back -- and clemency.

"Hey, I drive a taxi 14 hours a day, just trying to feed my family. This country, it can make you crazy."

"I'm sure you'll find people who will say we've failed Sam Baily, that somehow the system isn't set up anymore to provide a safety net for men like him, but I feel that the only person accountable for this situation is Sam Baily."
-- Annie Rand, St. Petersburg, Florida

"I'd like to know what Baily would say to the people of the former Soviet Union, who are suffering under hardships even greater than his here in the United States, that's what I'd like to know."
-- Claude Molder, Berkeley, California
